Welcome From Our Director

Dear Parents and Friends of HP Community,

I think I always knew I would work with very young children. As a child myself, I loved to play. Whether it was inside our basement which we turned into a school or house (depending on the day) or outside when we ran, went to the park, or played ball in the yard. I was so fortunate to grow up with lots of toys, dolls and siblings to play with (or dress up much to their dismay). Hours went by without notice and I was practicing what I now do for a living! I am so lucky to have a job where I can play and be supportive to growing children and teachers. Play is the work children do to become interested and familiar with the world around them. Our classrooms offer lots of opportunities to play and explore so that children can learn and practice what they will need to know in school and life!

I look forward to carrying on and improving the practices that have made HPCommunity what is for so many years. I am joined by an amazingly talented and dedicated staff. Whether a staff member at HPCommunity has served one year or 35 years, we all love our work in early childhood and also take our roles very seriously. We believe that every child deserves to thrive. We work diligently to provide an environment rich in opportunities to explore not only materials and ideas, but also relationships between children, adults, and the world around them. Like our name, we believe in community and all that that word entails. Communication is important to us and to that end please expect to get information via email regularly. Also know that our door is always open for further conversation.

So, welcome to the HPCommunity website! Welcome to a place that is dedicated to protecting and celebrating early childhood and play. Welcome to a place that appreciates and values diversity, creative thinking and problem-solving. Welcome to a place whose staff sees it as an honor to make relationships with care for and teach young child(ren).
